Hepatocyte are the functional cells of the liver and perform a wide range of metabolic, secretory and endocrine functions. Hepatotoxicity implies chemical-driven liver damage. The liver plays a major role in transforming and clearing chemicals and is susceptible to the toxicity from these agents. Certain medicinal agents, when taken in overdoses and sometimes even when introduced within therapeutic ranges, may injure the organ. Other chemical agents, those used in laboratories and industries, natural chemicals and herbal remedies can also cause hepatotoxicity. Borreria hispida seed flavonoid-rich fraction possesses free radical scavenging and antioxidant activity both in vitro and in vivo Borreria hispida Linn has been in use in the Indian system of medicine. Various part of the plant are useful in the treatment of antifertility, appetite, Bleeding in child birth, body ache, Gum trouble, scabies and skin disease, Stomach compliance, Ulcers, hepatitis, Wounds, head ache and tooth ache. The hepatotoxicity is induced by the paracetamol overdose, and the methanolic extract of Borreria hispida shows a good reduction of hepatotoxicity.Keywords

Toxicity of a substance is nothing but unwanted or series of adverse events that was initiated after administration of particular chemical, physical or biological agent. Acute toxicity study aim is to determine the occurred toxic manifestation of the administered test substance after expose to animals in one or more doses for a period of 14 days. The study provides the information or determination of therapeutic index, i.e. T.I. = LD50/ ED 50. Sub-acute toxicity testing evaluates the toxic effects of drug on repeated exposure and also provides the information on delayed and cumulative effect of the chemicals on the tissues or other biochemical mechanisms Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorders. The symptoms of depression are often subtle and unrecognized both by patients and by physicians. Major depression remains difficult to treat, despite the wide array of registered antidepressant. Milnacipran is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder and management of fibromyalgia. Milnacipran inhibits norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake in a 3:1 ratio, in practical use this means a balanced (equal) action upon both transmitter.Keywords

Ayurveda is the one of the most noted system of medicine in the world. The term Ayurveda in Sanskrit consist of two words: Ayur meaning life and Veda meaning science, thus Ayurveda is the science of life. Avipathi Choornam is an ayurvedic medicine and contains rhizomes of Zingiber officinale; fruits of Piper Nigrum, Piper longum, Embelia ribes, Emblica officinalis, seeds of Elettaria cardamomum and leaves of Cinnamomum zeyalanicum and it are useful for the treatment of peptic ulcer. Peptic ulcer is a break in the lining of the stomach or duodenum. The gastroprotective activity of Avipathi Choornam was performed by the screening of antiulcer activity by ethanol induced gastric ulcer and screening of gastroprotective effect by Pylorus ligation method. The toxicity study shows the safety nature of Avipathi Choornam and the results obtained shows that it is a good and safe therapeutic agent for ulcer treatment.Keywords

Practical experience and several modern research studies have shown that therapy using plant is better than using synthetic chemicals. According to ayurvedic folklore the Tamarindus indica Linn was mentioned for several ailments including asthma (kirtikar et al; 2001) the present study was planned to know the anti asthmatic activity of methanolic extract of this plant at different stages or different types of asthma using various evaluation models like, isolated goat tracheal chain preparation, bronchial hyperactivity, clonidine induced catalepsy in guinea pig, mast cell degranulation, milk induced leucocytosis in mice, milk induced eosinophilia in mice, passive paw anaphylaxis, and its activities such as bronchodilating, antihistaminic, anti inflammatory , anti allergic, mast cell stabilizing and adaptogenic activities were confirmed presenting the scope of plant for further studies. The data was analyzed by student't' test or one way ANOVA followed by Dunnett test. P≤0.05 was considered as significant.Keywords

The Traditional system of medicines like the Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha have provided the mankind with useful drug and are of mostly of natural origin and hence are believed to possess less side effects. Research for new anti gastric ulcer drugs in the traditional system of medicine made us survey the literature in the Siddha system of medicines for possible leads and suggestions. The literature provided with us the following drugs. Nilvarai chroonam, Bilwadi lehyam, Triphala choornam and Thamarai parpam. The Siddha drug were studied for anti gastric activity using different animal models like pylorus ligation and drug induced ulcer in rats and biochemical studies like SGOT,SGPT and alkaline phosphatase. The results obtained revealed that all the drugs investigated for their anti gastric ulcer activity had significant antiulcer action evidenced by the low ulcer scoring as well as low free acidity content. These results validate the therapeutic claims made of these drugs in the literature as anti ulcer drugs as well as the siddha clinicians.Keywords

Liver diseases are the major medical problems faced by the people all over the world. About 20,000 deaths occur every year due to liver disorders Liver diseases are mainly caused by toxic chemicals, excessive intake of alcohol, infections and autoimmune disorders. Hepatotoxicity mainly implies chemical-driven liver damage. Certain drugs when taken in overdose and sometimes even when administered within therapeutic ranges may injure many organs. Some chemical agents including those that are used in laboratories (CCl4, paracetamol) and industries (Lead, arsenic) and natural chemicals (microcystine, aflatoxins) and herbal remedies (Cascara sagrada, Ephedra) can also cause hepatotoxicity Chemicals which cause liver injury are collectively known as hepatotoxins.
So the aim of this research is to evaluate anti- oxidant and hepatoprotective activity using Desmostachya bipinnata leaf extract because very less pharmacological studies have been carried out on the leaf of Desmostachya bipinnata by emphasizing on the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity in Swiss albino rat model.
The whole plant materials are useful for the symptoms of different diseases. Desmostachya bippinata is indicated by several medicinal treatments for jaundice and other gastro intestinal disorder, Plant is a common weed plant mainly cultivated Northern parts of India.

Diabetic millets often referred to simply as diabetes (Ancient Greek: diabetes" to pass through [urine]") is a syndrome of disorder metabolism, usually due to a combination of hereditary and environment causes, resulting in abnormally high blood sugar level (hyperglycemia).Diabetes is described as starvation in the midst of plenty. Because the body will have high amount of glucose level but the cells are incapable of consume it because of osmotic difference Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas, which enable body cells to absorb glucose, to turn into energy. If the body cells cannot absorb the glucose, the glucose accumulates in the blood (hyperglycemia), leading to acute metabolic complications including keto acidosis and in the long term contribute to chronic micro-vascular complications.
Ixora coccinea is a low-growing tropical shrub notable for its bright coloured flowers which are composed of many small blooms massed together into dense, flat-topped flower heads. Ixora coccinea is one of the few Ixora species that make good indoor plants along with several kinds developed from it. It is primarily ornamental plant. Cut specimens are long lasting and are often used in floral arrangements. It is sometimes used as a hedge. In tropical Asia the flowers, bark and leaves of this plant are used in traditional medicine.

Wound is perhaps an inescapable event in the life of an organism. Healing process begins during the early phase of inflammation, but reaches completion usually after the injurious influence has been neutralized. It should be emphasized that without inflammation wounds would never heal. Eupatorium odoratum Linn. (Family: Compositae) is a perennial herb growing widely in the south of the country. The wound healing effect of ethanol extract of E. odoratum was studied using, re sutured incision wound, excision wound model, dead space wound model and the results obtained by the three models were compared and found that excision wound model is statistically significant (p<0.01). The anti inflammatory activity of ethanolleaf extract of E. odoratum was evaluated using carregeenan induced paw edema in rats, there was no statistically significant change in the drug treated compared to the control and the haemostatic activity assessed by capillary tube method, there was a statically significant reduction in the blood coagulation time.Keywords

Conventional drugs available for the treatment of cancer exhibit cytotoxicity as well as mutations in normal healthy body cells. The fruit extract of Terminalia chebula has been shown to have anticarcinogenic activity along with antimicrobial activities etc. To obtain experimental evidence on the therapeutic efficacy of the fruit extract, we examined its effect on chromosomal aberration (CA) and micronucleus (MN) formation in C57BL hybrid mice, to assess the anti mutagenic activity. In MN formation test, single application of Terminalia chebula methanolic fruit extract at different doses of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg dry weight 24 hours prior to i.p administration of cyclophosphamide (CP) at the dose of 50mg/kg significantly reduced the frequency of MNCPE and at the same time significantly increased PCE/NCE ratio compared to CP alone. Concerning CA test, fruit extract at all different doses significantly reduced the % CA and at the same time increased the % degree of protection in dose dependent manner in bone marrow cells of mice as compared to CP alone treated group. However Terminalia chebula fruit extract alone did not show any chromosomal aberration and/or micronucleus formation. These results therefore, indicate the antimutagenic activity of fruit extract. The anti mutagenic activity observed in this study can be attributed to the presence of flavonoids and polyphenols. Thus it could be a better choice to treat cancer without inducing mutations in healthy body cells.Keywords
